Karen Blixen - Out of this World
A 2005 documentary film about Karen Blixen
Danish Film News
7 July 2004--
The Danish Film Institute has just announced the production of six new
documentary films, including a new film about Karen Blixen.
Karen Blixen - Out of this World is directed by Marcus Mandal
and Anna
Lerche, who were also responsible for the TV success, "A Royal Family."
Intended to satisfy the curiosity of her huge international audience,
the film revolves around people who knew Karen Blixen personally.
The film is from the outset a success story about a strong, influential
and powerful woman, who lives against the grain. But it is also a story
about a deeply tortured individual who felt forsaken as a child, and
who as an adult was severely torn between competing talents and
experiences.
"Karen Blixen – Out of this world" which is produced by Nordisk Film
TV, was supported by a grant of 250,000 kroner from DFI. The film will
be distributed via a network of international television stations.
A spokesman for the Danish Film Institute, Morten Hartkorn, says about the six new films:
"These films are artistically impeccable, epic tales with large visual
impact; many of them contribute to our knowledge of the subject; others
have huge appeal for international television distribution. It is
wonderful that producers of Danish documentaries—while maintaining a
high artistic quality—also know how to appeal seriously to popular
interest."
