A.
Finch Hatton's biographer Erroll Trzebinski
states:
"As
soon as Denys took up flying again he made a will. On 7 October 1929 he
bequeathed his guns to Toby [his brother] and all his hunting
equipment. Topsy [his sister] was his residuary legatee, and in the
event of her dying before him, her children, Anne and Michael,
were to receive £4000 each, after which the residue was to go to
Toby" [Silence will Speak.
London: Heinemann, 1977, pp. 298-299].
The
biographer
does
not note the source of the above information or tell
the reader if she actually saw a copy of Finch Hatton's will.
Other accounts have restated Trzebinski's information, also without
presenting evidence of a primary source for the information. Example: "He
left his guns and hunting equipment to Toby and made Topsy his
residuary legatee. In the event of her predeceasing him, her children
were to receive £4000 each and Toby the rest."
