Question 50: Where was Babette's Feast filmed?

Q. Could you please tell me where exactly Babette's Feast has been filmed? As I'm probably going on holidays in Jutland next summer, I would love to visit the place.

A. Babette's Feast was filmed along the northwest coast of Jutland, at the village of  Lønstrup. The area is south of the beach resort of Skagen, and west of the town of Hjørring. See photos at Maarup Church:

"This small medieval church at Lønstrup, built in the 13th. century about 2 km from the coast, is now only 10 m from the steep coastal cliff. Every year the coast comes approx. 3 m closer. The church was used in the film ‘Babette’s Feast’."

"The windswept landscapes filmed in Babette's Feast, the movie version [of Karen Blixen's (Isak Dinesen's) story], trace the west coast northward to Skagen, a luminous, dune-covered point."
 

• Skagan, founded on a peninsula at Jutland's northernmost tip,  is famous for its unusual light--a magnet for artists. It is also a mecca for birders.
