A. "The Horse that Redford rode predominantly, was 'Filli' (filly). This horse was used exclusively in scenes with Redford and Karen (Meryl Streep).
However, to muddy the waters, he (Redford) also rode a darker horse in the war scenes with his Somali horseman (when Karen and Farah were trekking supplies to the Army), which came from a safari company that took horseback tours thru the Kenya bush. These horses where tough as nails and had accepted life with elephants, antelope and even big cats. They made perfect traveling and filming horses and can be seen in the Somali horsemen scenes with Michael Kitchen (riding King Kong) and Redford.
The rider pictured is Tessa Gross, a wrangler I hired at the beginning to locate and get horses ready for shooting. She is a proficient dressage rider and jumper in her own right and a 'local' Kenyan."
