A. The quote, "By thy mask I shall know thee," appears in Isak Dinesen's first collection of stories, Seven Gothic Tales, in "The Deluge at Norderney" (Vintage Books paperback, 1972, page 26).
The theme of the mask is a favorite of Karen Blixen's. Read about the history of Venetian carnival masks, mentioned in the story.
