A. Karen Blixen had several dogs while she lived in Africa. Her favorite
was the first one, called Dusk. This one got lost on a safari and was
killed by the kick of a zebra in 1917. The female, Dawn, was taken from
Karen Blixen's porch by a leopard in 1917.
Dusk was replaced by the son of Dusk and Dawn, called Banja ("rat" in
Swahili), and Pjuske, both of whom died in 1927. By 1926 she also had a
female dog called Heather.
